It has been very rewarding to see the number of folks that are visiting my website. Being able to connect our website with the website of an international forestry consulting company from Bonn, Germany has provided us a metohd of reaching additional persons and hopefully, gain support for the need to make required changes in the science of forest land management. The more I study and discuss current management of our remaining forested lands, the more convinced I am of the need to reach back to the traditional knowledges of our indigenous people, who shared a deep understanding and appreciation for the complexity of Nature. Somehow, we must find methods and time to observe and understand the dependence we have with our remaining forest environments, I prefer communities, for the survival of our own species. Population expansion and deforestation are two of the top three environmental issues we are faced with today. Expecting our world population to shrink and the acreage of forested lands to increase is totally un-realistic. The burden of discovering a better future rests solely with our ability to improve the management of our remaining forested lands. The future will not be realized through new and better science, as the solution will be found in the development of the wisdom of understanding the uniqueness of the individual forest communities (eco-systems). Our challenge will be managing our remaining forests so they might maximise their contributions to the human environment. We are about to make our small contribution to this issue by working with the acedemic community to develop environmental education materials designed to help young students appreciate how dependent they are on our surroundings and what it means to live in "balance" with Nature.
